- Library members must show their student/staff cards upon request from Library staff.
- IDs and Membership cards are non-transferable.
- Loss of student or staff cards should be reported to the Library immediately. Failure to do so will lead to users being held responsible for loans made by others using their IDs.
- All library materials taken out of the Library must be properly checked out at the Borrow & Renew Stations.
- Library staff on duty reserves the right to check books, files and bags that are being taken out of the Library.
- Playing games, littering, playing cards and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the Library.
- Food and drinks (except water) are not allowed to be brought into the Library.
- Library users must treat library materials with due care and consideration. Library users will be held responsible for items that are damaged, mutilated, or lost while on loan to them.
- Library users are expected to take care of all personal belongings brought into the Library. The Library will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to library users’ personal belongings.
- Library users, who photocopy materials, are fully responsible for any action contravening the COPYRIGHT ACT.
- Users are not allowed to remove library furniture and equipment from their original places.
- Any user, whose behavior may be deemed to be disturbing the peace of the Library, may be asked to leave the premises.
- Children who are below 12 years of age are not allowed into the Library.
- Mobile phones must be put on Silent Mode. Talking on mobile phones in the Library is not allowed.
- Reservation of seats or computers is strictly forbidden. Items left unattended on tables and chairs for more than 20 minutes will be removed to release seats for other users. The Library will not be responsible for any loss or damage to these removed belongings.
- During the transition to endemicity phase, users are to adhere to the following SOPs:
- Wear face mask at all times in the Library
- Maintain good personal hygiene at all times such as frequent hand washing with soap and water or use hand sanitizer
- Violation of Library Rules & Regulations can result in the following penalties being imposed on users:
- Being asked to leave the Library
- Not being allowed to enter and use the Library facilities for a specified period of time
- Having their borrowing eligibility being suspended
- Being referred to the Disciplinary Authorities of Sun-U and SCKL.
- Academic staff preparing to go on study or sabbatical leave outside the country for a period of more than 3 months are required to return all materials borrowed from the Library.
- Students who postpone, withdraw or have completed their courses must return all materials borrowed from the Library.
- For library members who fail to clear their fines or return library materials on leaving Sun-U or SCKL, the Library reserves the right to deduct their fines and cost of materials deemed to be lost, from their deposits or salaries.
Theft of Library Materials:- Fines of RM200.00
- Suspension of membership for at least one month
- Reported to Sun-U and SCKL authorities for further disciplinary action
- All categories of members eligible for borrowing are fined for overdue items. Fines are incurred on late returns (Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays inclusive) of borrowed items and lost and damaged library materials. Fines are as follows:
A. Late return of items
AV Collection for In-House items (from 1st hour until 7th day) - RM0.50 per hour
Open shelf & AV Home loan items (from 1st day until 30th day) - RM1.00 per day
Open shelf items overdue for more than 30 days will be considered lost - As per “Lost items”
B. Lost items
Library materials from any collection reported as lost or not returned to the Library withinstipulated time stated above
Minimum fine of RM60 for loss of book
- plus overdue fines
- plus actual cost of replacing the item (price of item, freight charges, etc.)
Mutilated items (beyond repair):
Fine of RM100.00
Actual cost of latest edition of a new copy of the book RM50.00 processing fee
Reported to Sun-U and SCKL Authorities for further action.
C. Non-Payment of Fines
Users must clear library fines as soon as they are incurred. Members whose arrears are in excess of RM100 may have their loans privileges temporarily suspended, until their fines are cleared.
Fines that are not cleared will be deducted from deposits at the end of every year or after a student has completed or quit his/her course. Fines owed by staff will be deducted from their salaries when they leave. - General penalties
No valid membership ID or student identification
Not permitted to use Library facilities and services except with prior permission from Chief Librarian
Lending of Library Membership ID to non-members
First offence: Warning
For 2nd offence and onwards: Fine of RM25.00
THE LIBRARY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO AMEND THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS FROM TIME TO TIME
I. ELIGIBILITY FOR 42KL & MICRO-CREDENTIAL
These students do short term courses with a validity of 6 to 12-months. Privileges of membership for these students include the following:
- Entry into the Library
- Wi-Fi access within the Campus
- Use of open access collections only, i.e. Open Shelf, Reference, Harvard, Malaysiana Collections, within the Library
- No borrowing of Library materials
- Remote access of E-databases subscribed by the Library.
- Document Delivery service, upon payment of relevant charges and fees.
II. APPLICATION
Automatic registration for Library membership is done once enrolled. No further registration required.
III. LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS
All library’s rules and regulations apply.
IV. TERMINATION
- Library reserves the right to terminate membership of 42KL and Micro-Credential members who are in flagrant breach of library rules.
- 42KL and Micro-Credential Members shall have the right to terminate his/her membership at any time.
I. ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
Associate Membership is open to the following persons:
- Online Facilitators of Sunway University such as MBA & MDS ODL program
- Staff of Sunway Group of Companies participating in research with Sunway Education Group, e.g. ASLI and Sunway Medical Centre
- Other persons approved by Sunway Education Group Management
II. APPLICATION
- Online Application Forms for Associate Membership are available from Home Page. Photos may be submitted with the application form
- Library cards are processed within three working days.
- New members can collect their cards from the Service Counter
- Photo of member may be taken by staff at the Service Counter for the Facial Recognition System.
- A letter of undertaking stating full responsibility for any fines, lost books and infringement of library rules and regulations by the associate member is required from the relevant Head of Department of the Sunway Education Group requesting for approval of membership.
- This membership must be renewed annually (only where applicable). Please request for renewal if it is still needed.
III. PRIVILEGES
Associate Members are allowed the following privileges:
- Loan of 4 books from the Library collections, except text-books for a period of 1 month
- Remote access of E-databases subscribed by the Library
- Document Delivery service, upon payment of relevant charges and fees.
- Borrow AV materials for viewing within the Library
- Facilities closed to Associate Members:
- IT Facilities

V. TERMINATION
- Library reserves the right to terminate membership of an Associated Member who is in flagrant breach of library rules.
- An Associate Member shall have the right to terminate his/her membership at any time.
I. ELIGIBILITY FOR EXTERNAL MEMBERSHIP
External Membership is open to the following persons, subject to conditions (3a-b)
- Alumni who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree or a post-bachelor qualification or a professional accounting qualification (such as ACCA) from Sunway University and Sunway College KL
- Staff of Sunway Group of Companies approved by respective HR.
- Other persons approved by Sunway Education Group Management / Sunway Library Committee / Chief Librarian.
- All eligible External Members who wish to use Tun Hussein Onn Sunway Library must register with the Library.
- They will be given a library card. This must be produced upon request and on borrowing AV materials for viewing in the Library.
II. NON-ELIGIBILITY OF MEMBERSHIP
Students who are enrolled in other private colleges / universities.
III. APPLICATION
- Online Application Forms for External Membership are available from Home Page.
- Library cards are processed within three working days.
- External Members can collect their library card at the Service Counter.
- Picture of member will be taken by staff at the Service Counter for the Facial Recognition System.
IV. PRIVILEGES
External Members are allowed the following privileges:
- Use all open shelf books and periodicals from the Library’s collections.
- Borrow AV materials for viewing within the Library premises
- Access subscribed E-databases within Library premises.
- Document Delivery, upon payment of relevant charges and fees.
- Gratis: All Library Services such as Help Desk, Reference services.
- Facilities closed to External Members:
- IT Facilities

VI. BORROWING AV MATERIALS AND RESERVING GROUP PROJECT PODS / TRAINING ROOMS
- External Members may reserve these library rooms for group viewing /group use whenever these facilities are not used by Sunway University and Sunway College KL staff and students.
- Priority is always given to students and staff of Sunway University and Sunway College KL.
- The Library reserves the right to cancel /postpone the booking of AV materials / rooms due to sudden urgent events of Library/Teaching staff/Sunway University or Sunway College KL Management (e.g. for MQA and other accreditation visits).
- External Members will be consulted and informed by the Library upon the cancellation / postponement of bookings, whenever feasible.
VII. TERMINATION
- Library reserves the right to terminate membership of an External Member who is in flagrant breach of library rules.
- An External Member shall have the right to terminate his/her membership at any time.
I. ELIGIBILITY FOR PUBLIC MEMBERSHIP
Public membership is open to the following general public to apply as library members:
- Standard Public Membership: Open to members of public (except students of colleges and universities).
- Temporary Membership: Open to Sunway students whose membership has expired and awaiting enrolment.
- Visiting Scholars and Researchers: Open to bona fide scholars and researchers (evidence of research being undertaken)
- Corporate Membership: Open to companies, societies, institutions, etc.
- Spouses of Sunway Campus Staff: Open to spouses of fulltime Sunway Campus staff
II. APPLICATION
- Online Application Forms for Public Membership are available from Home Page.
- Once membership application has been approved, further instructions on supplying a photograph and payment of fees and deposits (if any) will be informed to the applicant.
- Library cards will be given only to members which allow to borrow library books. New members may collect their cards from the Service Counter.
- Photo of member may be taken by staff at the Service Counter for the Facial Recognition System.
- This membership must be renewed annually, except for Temporary membership and Visiting Scholars and Researchers which required monthly renewal. Please request for renewal if it is still needed.

V. TERMINATION
- Library reserves the right to terminate membership of Public Members who is in flagrant breach of library rules.
- All annual Public Memberships are renewed yearly, except when informed earlier by members that they wish to terminate membership. Members will be notified at least one [1] month before expiry of membership.
I. NON-ELIGIBILITY OF MEMBERSHIP
- MUM staff are not eligible for this membership.
- Pre-U graduates of SCKL who are no longer active students at MUM.
- Pre-U graduates of SCKL studying in other private colleges/universities.
II. APPLICATION
- Extended Alumni online application form is available from Library Home Page.
- Once application is approved, photo of applicant will be taken by staff at the Service Counter for the Facial Recognition System.
III. PRIVILEGES
- Entry into Tun Hussein Onn Sunway Library from 5:00pm onwards only on weekdays [Monday to Friday].
- Entry during weekends [Saturday and Sunday] and public holidays have no restrictions.
- Browsed and use all open shelf Library collections.
- Access to subscribed E-databases from a dedicated PC within Library premises.
- Document Delivery, upon payment of relevant charges and fees.
- Library services such as Help Desk and Reference Services.
IV. NOT PERMITTED
- Loan of Library materials.
- Sunway Wi-Fi and IT facilities.
- Bookings of Library Rooms such as Group Project Pods, Hubs and Training Rooms.

VI. TERMINATION FOR MEMBERSHIP
- The duration of membership is for ONE [1] calendar year, i.e. January – December, regardless of when the application is approved. All membership expires on 31 December of the given calendar year.
- Expiry of membership at the end of calendar year if not renewed or eligible.
- Tun Hussein Onn Sunway Library reserves the right to terminate membership if found to breach any Library rules and regulations.
